Hi! It's 2015 and I can't believe I haven't seen this yet! I'm especially impressed that you seem to have ported the glitches too, at least the commonly exploited ones. Did you find some way to actually embed a dos program? Or is this truly a "port" of ZZT? I thought the source code was long gone! Anyway, this message is probably going to sit here for at least 5 years. I can't tell, since I don't have 2020 vision. HAH. THAT JOKE WILL BE DEAD BY THE TIME YOU READ THIS I'M GLAD I GOT ONE MORE USE OUT OF IT.
nupanick, this isn't an embedded DOS program (like what archive.org has). Instead, ZZT Ultra is an enhanced version of ZZT reconstructed entirely using ActionScript 3 code. There isn't really any way to "port" the ZZT source code because that code was lost. Good job, Tim. :-( You can also check out Roton on github, which is a C# project that reproduces ZZT from reverse-engineered executables. The progress of Roton's development is chronicled on zzt.org's Lyon forum (Roton was originally known by that name).
Just wanted to say, nupanick, that I enjoyed the PortalZZT demo. Maybe with ZZT Ultra, you could make a proper "Portal" game with actual vectors and inertia effects. The engine allows you to do this--you don't have to rely upon cheap tricks anymore!
In case this was missed, a recreation of the source code that compiles to a byte-for-byte exe: https://github.com/asiekierka/reconstruction-of-zzt
